Well the chill has caught up with us in Charleville! A clear cold evening. A quiet day today starting with a short bushwalk then attending to some business in town i.e. a decent coffee & food shopping. The coffee was good as we shared a table with a couple from Geelong and got some interesting information on Lawn Hill NP we will need to book. We visited the historic society which is housed in a bank building built in 1880. Quite interesting. George a staff member played the autoharp for us. Autoharp information On our return to the park after lunch Susan sat down and did some planning as we worked out how many days it will take us to get to where we need to make reservations i.e. Lawn Hill NP and the tour to Cape York. We should book these tomorrow. We had a great value demonstration of didgeridoo playing plus some interesting items of aboriginal culture from Ernie Adams, was very entertaining and great value at $3 per head. Interview with Ernie.
Following this we had a sausage sizzle tea and a good sit around the campfire.
Tomorrow our favourite job packing up and moving on to Blackall... then Longreach, Winton, Cloncurry and Mount Isa over the course of the next week. Hopefully to more warmth!
Cheers

The Historic House Museum in Charleville was excellent, the building originally built as a bank with 5 marble fireplaces (apparently this was decadent out here) the building is still in excellent repair built of sturdier construction than the average building of the era (when I said this to Simon he said “what do you expect it was a bank”!)
There were a couple of notices with safety themes but unfortunately my camera battery decided to go flat and I was only able to snap one item of interest.
The picture is of a citation from the towns’ folk to the police magistrate (calligraphy), not only is it beautiful artistically it also demonstrates what can be achieved when one works with the people, rather than against them. (Brought a wry smile to my lips when I thought of a policeperson I am acquainted with back home!)
