Day 35 Thursday 12th August 2010

Hello from Blackall,
Today we packed and travelled from Charleville 300km north to Blackall a town on the Barcoo River. The caravan park was full so we are overflowed into the showgrounds. On the way we confirmed our Cape York tour details which will be a 12 day road tour to the Cape with a flight back to Cairns.
Enough of the minutiae. Tonight i want to talk about the camaraderie of the road. 4 couples, all of whom had never met went to the Barcoo Hotel at Blackhall for tea and shared a bit of their lives with each other.
Art who sang and toured in the Austalian Boys Choirand `whose headmaster was Bill Woodfull Australian Cricketer, Alan who left school at 14 on the day he "jobbed" his teacher, Jo whose family emigrated from Holland and who started life in Oz living in a tent Another lady whose name escapes me who was expelled from school for picking up a teacher and shoving her into a locker... The stories and experiences were so varied and it was a great evening, fuelled by alcohol of course. The thing is this happens to a degree every night. You meet people who you will never see again and have a great time with no pretentiousness. This is a great feature of life on the road.

The hot water here is hot because it comes from the artesian basin.... At the trough in the toilet i touched the inlet pipe to the cistern and it was quite warm ... artesian water ....

Tomorrow onto Longreach after taking in a few local sights....

cheers Simon
