Coastal Drive between Penguin and Ulverstone

Hi Folks,
A sunny public holiday here today. We don’t know what for. The young man serving in Woolies when we shopped on Friday didn’t know either.
The arrival of Monday signalled the departure of many of the locals from this park. A much more peaceful day today with no yelling, swearing, screaming and boozing and that was just the kids! Actually it wasn’t that bad I guess. Maybe I am just a grumpy old b.
We lounged around this morning. I tried to gather some information from the net but was frustrated by our telecom fringe dweller status.
We took advantage of the lack of people to cart our expresso machine down to the shelter and use the power to make coffee, real coffee.
After lunch we sauntered into Ulverstone via the Penguin coast road. A very scenic drive which features in today’s audio/video. The rail line runs adjacent to the sea most of the way and I wondered if they ever thought about or had a tourist steam railway here.
We arrived in Ulverstone and I replenished my beer supplies. We visited the information centre since the building looked interesting and the local fishing/camping shop. Susan bought a stove top coffee percolator for when we don’t have power to run our machine. We then adjourned to the foreshore to publish yesterday’s blog and complete some online activities.
Returning to Riana Susan knocked up another excellent tea using what we had available. In the picture you see sausages (beef low fat) wrapped in spicy omelette, mashed potato/sweet potato/carrots with onion and a salad made from leftover pasta with tomato’s, cucumber, carrot, onion and lettuce. We must be the best fed campers in the state I think. Of course the downside for me as the dishwasher is the number of dishes this creates! (Kaye take note ) The coffee percolator had its first use. We need to refine our technique as it was pretty weak coffee.
After some more internet frustration I adjourned to write the blog inside and publish later. I have already caught a cold through standing at the back of the car at night and freezing my bits off.
Another piece of trivia, is that just about every video I have published in the blog since I started has been the wrong aspect ratio. I shoot in widescreen high definition (1920*1080 pixels 16:9 aspect ratio) with both of my cameras. As the video files are so large I have been shrinking them to smaller sizes with lower video bit rates using Sony Vegas. I have discovered they are all in 4:3 aspect ratio i.e. taller and less wide than they should be. Anyway it is now fixed as I have made a new template. As I said a bit of trivia as it isn’t that noticeable.
I have decided tonight I am not going to install a 65 litre water tank under the trailer when we go home. The cost is not outweighed by the extra convenience and the inconvenience of the installation. I will buy another jerry can for water. Cost $30 as opposed to $350 plus a lot of time to put the tank in. Jerry cans are simple with not much to go wrong.
Speaking of going wrong. The other pictures are of a small crack in the windscreen propagating from a chip from a large stone from a passing truck on the road to Musselroe Bay a week ago. Hopefully it won’t get any worse. The last replacement windscreen cost $350 which would buy a lot of beer.
We are going over to the north west coast for a few days probably Arthur River since we enjoyed it there in 2007.
Looks like fine weather continuing which is good for packing!

Night folks
Cheers Simon
