Boat harbour from The Nut |
Good evening,
from Arthur River on the West Coast. Next stop west is Tierra Del Fuego although i haven't checked so don't quote me on that. Anyway the way the easterrly breeze is blowing tonight you would be there rather quickly at the moment.
We awoke to an overnight dew and a pleasant sunny morning with the cloud and breeze building.
Susan was up before dawn which is around 7 these days to take some sunrise shots which we will add later along with any other good ones from the day.
We drove to Stanley and spent a bit longer there than I intended. It is quite a pretty town with old world houses which is to be expected since it was settled in 1826. It is primarily a tourist town and the retail areas reflect this.
The Nut is a volcanic plug that rises to 143 metres above the town. Since the chairlift was only $10 we skipped the climb and descent and took a ride. We walked the 2km around the top although the stiff breeze made it a bit unpleasant. We stopped to chat to an English visitor Carmel from Farnham in Surrey the same county i was born in. She is currently working on the broccoli in Ulverstone.
After a decent coffee at "The Swinging Anchor" we drove on through Smithton which looked a reasonable place and then to Arthurs River where we are camped tonight in very blustery conditions. Susan knocked up a butter chicken which was very tasty. Hopefully the weather here will not be as bad as what we viewed on the Adelaide weather radar tonight. Our tent is deliberately set against SW bush to give us a good wind break. Unfortunately the wind is blowing from the other way tonight so it will be noisy under the canvas.
night folks
cheers Simon
