Hi Folks,

A chilly night in the forest. Susan’s thin sleeping bag left her shivering. We have been down to car to retrieve her thermals for tonight. I took the opportunity to grab my pillow.

After a generous breakfast of oats, apples, raisins, goji berries and apricots we started work under gorgeous blue skies in the shade of the forest.

The first job was to create tent sites – 3 new ones required. I measured the dimensions to be 5x3.5 metres. It is hard finding flat sites with not much clearing/levelling required. All hand tools apart from the chain saw.

We had lunch at 2 and afterwards helped Rob remove a fallen swamp gum tree top that had tumbled about 60 metres to the ground clobbering the front of a tent on the way down. Repairs took longer than expected and involved cutting down a beech myrtle tree with a suitable V section to use as new main pole.

As mentioned above Susan and I hiked up and down the steep hill to the car. A good work out with Susan using both walking poles to great effect. A much faster more comfortable downhill  run.

The guests have arrived and are enjoying their wine and nibbles on the deck. We are sitting on logs drinking tea and chatting.

This is a very quiet still place with a few early morning bird calls and some devil shrieks at night. The only pest in abundance is mosquitoes.

We are now in our comfort zone.  A good warm night’s sleep will cement that.

Night folks

Cheers Simon
