I chuckle over the date which I did not realise until I started typing. It explains a bit about the day.
Last night I indicated we were to sleep in the car. At about 9 the air had cooled and the foggy drizzle had abated so I decided we should have a swag night in deference to our bodies. A quick set up and we were asleep. Albeit interrupted by a bit of heavy transport going past but a not too bad nights sleep. This morning a hint of blue sky to lull us into a false sense of security and we lost the time we could have been having breakfast talking to our neighbour since the rain recommenced, Whilst we were dry last night the damp bits are building up on the swag and it's contents. We have one more night left in it before it needs a good dry methinks.

We had coffee for breakfast in the general store at Wooroolin before heading towards Gympie and one of 2 low cost camps which had mobile phone service. The weather was pretty ordinary as we drove. We turned off after Gympie to the Cobb & Co camp to be greeted by the owners crossing the bridge the other way and telling us they had just put up the "closed due to wet" sign. They advised that lots more rain was on the way according to the bureau. Given that our other spot was down the road and that we know our next helpex is a bit of bog at the moment I took some time to decide if we needed to change our plan. We decided to head back westwards. In hindsight something we should have done when we were in Kingaroy. We stopped at Kilkivan on the way back for a lunch break. The food was good and not overly expensive. A further check of the weather showed that we would have to go a fair way westward and there was no guaranty of sun. That being the case we decided to come here to Kinbombi falls. The picnic ground is elevated above the gorge and conditions given the amount of rain are not too bad underfoot. It also has mobile service with our external aerial.

We have set the swag up under a tarpaulin which is old and a bit leaky so we can use the car awning for sitting about, eating and computing of course. Susan cooked our pork rack roast for tea in the camp oven on the gas since the rain precluded a fire. As we sat in the late afternoon light I reflected on our "tough" conditions with the rain and compared them to those of the early settlers or those described in our audio book "Thommo & Hawk". I think i must be getting a tad soft! We have a fridge, beer, internet, warm bedding, food, coffee, dry clothes, hot water etc etc etc. I would prefer to be sitting under the sunny blue 25 degree skies that would normally be found here. However although it is wet it isn't cold so things could be a lot worse.
We will play it by ear tomorrow. I would like to arrive at our next helpex with the kit dried out thoroughly and packed away which means waiting for the sun before we leave.
The weather after dark seems to improve with the humidity dropping and the rain mostly disappearing. For some reason tonight we have mosquitos so we have broken out the aerogard.
Night folks
Simon
