Hi Folks,
Short blog tonight due to a mystifying computer problem I only detected when trying to copy "How to cook like Heston" to a USB drive for Susan to watch. She was going to watch his since the internet was not cooperating. I couldn't write to my USB drives. I could copy from them and delete from them but every other right click operation forced explorer to restart. It's fixed now and I know what I did to fix it but don't know why it worked. I suspect the cause was the new anti virus program Bitdefender I installed this week. I have a 12 month free subscription so I chose to switch from my current expired one to save $65. The first install crippled my laptop and I ended up using system restore. The second install worked well.
I also spent time researching battery life on Susan's new phone. She was pretty disappointed that it was flat in one day when she made one short call. Another "triumph" from the Nokia Corporation. Sometimes I think a return to the stone age seems attractive.
Back to today before you nod off to sleep with the computer/phone minutiae.
Susan had a brilliant idea of throwing the plastic up onto the roof to save pulling it down. This I did and weighed it down with lumps of wood. She then continued stuffing straw while I worked on the fiddly attachment of the chicken wire to the straw. Some progress was made and now I have half an idea what I am doing we might knock it off tomorrow. The straight sections are easy but around the windows and up against the roof more difficult. Small clamp plates made from strip material have to be riveted to hold the mesh up to the corrugated roofing. Susan is making bent wire staples to hold the wire against the hay. She has to use the saw to cut the wire since it is quite hard and thick. We are going to need quite a few hundred staples.
Carl decided we should replace the bottom widow frame supports. Thus involved cutting new longer ones and whacking them in. They now sit on the slab rather than suspended in the straw above it and thus prone to sinking over time. A sensible modification methinks.
That's your lot for today as I need sleep so I can be my patient cheerful non grumpy self tomorrow!
cheers Simon
