Day 1 Lake Cullulleraine Friday 8th June 2011

Here we go, here we go, here we go

The view when we pulled in at the Lake

Greetings eager readers,

We are nominally a day late in leaving and if you count the number of hours before we left today 1.5 days late. There is always a lot of last minute items to be attended to and today was not different. We finally chugged out of the driveway at about 1145.

Having been away from Adelaide for a while we were not prepared for the visual impact of the concrete monoliths growing out of the ground at the top end of south road for the elevated expressway. Susan has already expressed her concern about travelling on a suspended road. I must assure her that she has nothing to worry about since the world is going to end in 2012 anyway.

Our travels today were mercifully uneventful. The only item of note an errant truck driver deciding to overtake over double lines. Not a clever thing to do when a divvy van is 4 vehicles back. Needless to say when we passed the truck he was stopped and helping police with their enquiries.

We crossed the border and although our intended stop point was beyond Mildura we pulled up at Lake Cullulleraine just before dusk. The picture was taken upon our arrival.

The new set up has worked pretty well  and tea was prepared much more easily. The water heater was a bit temperamental but did deliver the goods.

Anyway tea has been eaten, the dishes done and it is coming in rather cold. We do have a couple of bottles of Drambuie with us, Xmas presents from a few years ago (thanks father) to ward off the cold. However Susan sees chilblains in her near future so time to enter into our sarcophagus.

Night Folks

Cheers Simon
