Day 2 Goolgowi Saturday 9th June 2012

Our swag, complete with orange tent pegs for hanging our shoes on
Hi All,

Today's blog starts last night, as so many of our blogs have before. With our body parts freezing as we climbed into bed, I happened to say if we had Simon's swanky thermometer we could check the difference between the outside and in-swag temperatures. Simon had packed it so it was duly produced from the depths of the paj.

As is our practice for an overnight stop we usually swag it and have had many notable cold nights, however we have never felt cold in the swag, and this is not because we have layers of bedding. The usual set up in one sleeping bag spread out on the mattress and another on top and us between, most nights I have to partly throw off the top cover as I am too hot (no not a menopausal thing).

This morning the truth was revealed, it does get hot in the swag over 33C under the sleeping bag and at some stage overnight 0.5C outside. The clouds rolled in overnight and by the time we got up this morning the outside temperature was a comfortable 8C.

It was cold outside
But warm inside

We pottered about and hit the road mid morning, heading eastward with no final destination for the nights stop in mind. We stopped for lattes in Mildura and settled into the drive onward with our trusty talking book. This is also something we do on long trips, it is enjoyable to "read" the same book together. This time it is a 3 part series from Bryce Courteney. I have missed the routine, we didn't listen to any in Tassie last trip, as most trips were not long enough. Part of the enjoyment of this life on the road for me is having someone read to me!

Dinner cooked and eaten, dishes done, drambuie warming my insides, listening to the semi's roll on by, and thinking of the warm swag.

Night folks

Susan
