Day 150 Gympie Sunday 4th November 2012

Hi Folks,

A free day for us. We took ourselves down to the KinKin market this morning which was of modest size and moderate interest.
A further drive up the picturesque back roads took us to the Mount Wolvi lookout recommended to us by a local a week or so ago. The view that we could see was good just not enough of it. It really needed some of the trees to be chopped down (did i just say that!) to give a good panorama. We wound our way back down and into Gympie where we stopped at a park for a toilet break and discovered the tail end of a growers market that we walked around.

Very interesting.  The pan is made of plastic

Have akubra will gold pan!

We then drove to the Deep Creek fossicking area around the corner. We chose a spot on the creek and did some panning. To my surprise we found what appeared to be flecks of gold. We collected the residues of 4 or 5 pans and have set them aside here to dry out to see if it is possible to separate the gold from the dross. The gold is very small and i can't say i know much about gold panning so i will do some research before i give up my day job and get gold fever.

We found a small restaurant / coffee shop for lunch. This is not as easy as it sounds in Gympie on a Sunday. It is a bit like a ghost town really. We arrived at 145 to be informed that the restaurant closed at 2. I had a nice beef korma very tasty but such a small serve for $18. Susan had salt and pepper squid which although tender was very bland. For coffee afterwards we went to Centro to the one remaining coffee shop that was open. The drinks were average. After this we took a quick spin around the Aldi supermarket (a high excitement day this one) before heading home.

Roxy had returned from her retreat so we shared stories of what we had been up to. Before tea we sat out on the deck in the late afternoon sun having a drink and nibbles and a chat. Susan knocked up a meat pie for tea using the casserole from last night as the filling.

Tomorrow I am shifting rocks and Susan is digging in the garden so plenty of exercise for our last day here.

Night folks

Simon
