Day 271 Mansfield Tuesday 5th March 2013

Hello once more

We bit the bullet and walked this morning finally, albeit setting out a bit late, and the day was warming up. Average maximum in Victoria today 30C, I reckon we were walking back in the heat, although there was a faint breeze making it pleasant enough.

Panorama of Lake Eildon

The GPS indicated there was a track back along Lake Eildons high tide mark, this may have been correct except there were "no public access to the lake" signs, after trying a couple of side roads we decided to walk back the way we came. The walk was made quite even more pleasant by the aroma of the pine trees along the road, very fragrant. There were many large kangaroos which we disturbed and they bounded away, we also noted the afternoon siesta spot for the roos, quite distinctive in the way the glass was flattened. Then there was the wombat hole in an adjacent field, wouldn't like to run into its owner on the roadside, a whopper.

Kangaroo siesta spot
Wombat hole, although who could tell?
Some large gums around here, widowmaker type
Walking "home"
We had a serious talk this morning about the Heysen Trek, I had been getting the impression Simon was cooling on the idea. So the latest update is, that we are taking preparations a bit slower, and will decide once we get home.

More tomorrow

Susan
