Day 275 Kyneton Saturday 9th March 2013

Greetings One and All,

After a wonderfully comfortable nights sleep, we drove into town twice today, the first time to do food shopping, anticipating the shops to close at midday, they didn't. The second trip was for a walk around and visit to the tourist information centre.

A very striking mosaic is displayed on the town hall wall and commemorates the Black Saturday fire, the background of the project can be found here, and an interview here. We did see some evidence of a fire as we drove toward Kyenton yesterday, although it seemed to be much more recent that the Black Saturday fire. No doubt as we explore the area over the coming days we will encounter some evidence of the tragedy.

On return to the resort it occurred to me how vulnerable the resort was, unlike Mansfield which does not have much vegetation close to the units, Kyenton is surrounded by gum trees, most units have trees overhanging them. With temperatures over 30C forecast for the next few days, we will be keeping a close ear on the weather reports.

We planned our outings for the next few days, had a spa and sauna and a latish dinner, a "rocks and sand" recipe of fried/casseroled chicken wings with onion and carrot with honey, macadamias and soy, rice and greens. Luckily it was yumm, but then most of my rocks and sand recipes are.
