Hi All,

Thank goodness for that little application running in the bottom right corner of my computer screen otherwise I would never know what day it is... it also tells me the time a latish one for me tonight, usually I am on the bed (mattress) reading but tonight we have just finished tea.

Day started with some scatterings of rain when the moon was still high in the sky, I am guessing 0300.... We awoke late, so it seemed, as dawn comes earlier now. We breakfasted at a leisurely pace, and Simon raided my museli again (seems his is always running out, my supply is well calculated)then we headed off for a spot of fishing.

Simon has been a fisherman for 40 years, me for about 8 but in all that time I have not caught a single fish, that I haven't had to throw back.... I learnt how to tie hooks on in January 2009 in Nelson but have not touched a rod since.

We were on the "new wharf" in Bourketown just after 0900 and fished til 12, caught heaps of cat fish "catties" all thrown back. Simon's first catch a Bream was a keeper but as size limits here are different to SA he threw it back, but it was a keeper. By 1200 we had only 1 Bream but it made a nice lunch with couscous/salad.

New neighbours pulled in and we lazed about the camper googling various stuff, me campers for sale and Simon checking the news. We set out for more fishing about 1600 and immediately caught a crab in one of Simon's nets, this was quickly followed by a Bream and a dilemma.... maybe we are the Laurel and Hardy of fishing as well as camping.... only 1 bucket.... crab and fish together...don't think so.....flash of Susan brilliance....the Coles insulated bags....good size for crabs and can be zipped up.

After many more catches and throwbacks we ended an hour and a half's fishing with 2 crabs and 2 Bream.

On return to camp crabs were refrigerated in accordance with various advice (including RSPCA) much to the displeasure of a fellow female camper in the kitchen who said I was cruel and I "should just cook them and eat them".

Finally after the appropriate anaesthetisation and cooking/cleaning the banquet of mud crabs was served along with a glass of crisp chilled white wine.

Our neighbours (4 blokes and a tinny) are envious have only caught 1 Bream between them in 2 days!

Cheers Susan

The other item of note related to the muesli was that i managed to break a tooth/filling this morning. It just happened to be the last one i had fixed a mere $500. The nearest dentists are at Cairns or Mount Isa so hopefully it won't hurt before then! Even on the road things go wrong just like at home or at work so you just get on with it. Today was a great getting on with it day! Bream and mudcrabs in the Albert River fishing on the only crocodile proof structure available. Was a long hard day when the cooking and cleaning of the crabs was included. The camp kitchen, housing an armada of cane toads, supplied the cooking pot.
Insects were no problem fishing at dusk we were prepared with long trousers, long sleeves, rid and fly nets over our hats unlike everybody else here that just wears singlets and shorts :-) Mind you there were swarms of frustrated mossies buzzing around our heads!
We will book an extra night in the morning as we still have a few prawns to use up! Besides i had a large fish presumably a barra swirl behind my lure on dusk so it's got to be worth another crack.

Cheers Simon
