Day 59 Sunday 5th September 2010

Good evening viewers,

Hello from the carpark outside the camping ground. I am sitting here idling the Pajero to charge the camper battery and cycle the car fridge. Why am i doing this you ask? Well my 12 volt power supply that I bought to run the car fridge from 240 volts when the 240 volt board in the fridge crapped itself and I got quoted $185 to repair it, has died. I didn't discover this until the sun went down so had no chance to switch to solar and the fridge in the camp kitchen was quite full and not overly cold so that was ruled out. I now need to buy another supply in the form of a battery charger. Hopefully there will be one in Karumba tomorrow but who knows. I have a power supply that would do the job nicely unfortunately it is at home.

We arose this morning from peaceful slumber to a pleasant 22C early morning and swarms of mosquitos. Apparently they have only been bad for the last couple of days. The morning was spent pottering. I wandered down to the water mid morning and cast a few lures with no success and caking my sandals with the thickest stickiest mud imagineable. I returned to the river with a bucket to capture some small rock crabs by hand turning over rocks as i figured they will be excellent bait.

We pottered through the afternoon Susan documenting the adventures of Honeydin our stuffed toy and me imspecting the low tide formations in preparation for fishing tomorrow. Around 430 we headed to the pool and enjoyed some swimming and chatting to other guests before having the last 4 fillets of bream for tea with fresh salad and chips from the takeaway. Out neighbours are leaving tomorrow and donated some nice fresh fish so we will be enjoying that tomorrow and the next day.

The weather is hot however it is mitigated by a stiff sea breeze and this evening there is a strong westerly blowing so hopefully all the mosquitos will be blown to Cairns.
Fishing charters are $100 for half a day, apparently any longer is exhausting as you get too many fish! so I have added that to my agenda.

Goodnight folks.

Cheers Simon
