Hi Folks,
Sitting here in the Sunset Caravan Park at Karumba Point 27 degrees at 8pm. We traversed 300km from Burketown through Normanton to Korumba. The middle 150 km section was unsealed and had some fairly sizeable corrugations! Fortunately some light showers had dampened the dust but there was still plenty in the dryer sections to create the usual mess on the trailer. Crossed a couple of rivers where the stream size and tide marks gave an indication of the enormous volumes of water flowing in the wet season.
We passed through Normanton and have a nice medium sized site in the best park in Karumba. I toodled out before tea to get white wine supplies. $15 for a warm Renmano 2 litre cask at the pub in town. Chardonnay only, out of stock of dry white. However the Sunset tavern could supply one at $22 compared with $15 at Mount Isa. Tourist prices! Had a quick beach walk to catch the dying rays of the sun.
We have booked for three nights but will probably stay longer especially if the fishing is good! A short blog tonight. Catch you tomorrow.
Cheers Simon

Interesting changes in landscape on the road today, a stretch 40 kms out of Bourketown had sparse trees in what would be cattle grazing country, further up the road there were more termite mounds than trees, wonder where they get their food?
If it wasn't so hot and the roads were better I would be more insistent about stops for photo taking.
Eventually I was successful in having Simon stop so that I could get a picture of a shrub with what appeared to be masses of gum nuts, it turned out to be flower heads with lovely purple petals. I also snapped pics of a large orange flower in Burketown and a delicate hibiscus. If anyone knows what thes plants are I would be interested to know...
On arriving at Karumba, I left Simon idling the car and went to pay for the site, on my return Bob and Jenny from Kingaroy were chatting to Simon, which was a surprise, we didn't think they were heading this direction.
There also appear to be other familiar vans in the park, will need to explore tomorrow.....
Susan
