Hi Folks,
A quiet but busy day which is why this isn't being written until Saturday morning.
We continued full speed with our window project although i took some time out to examine the reason for yesterdays flat battery. After fully charging the battery yesterday it was down to 12.3 volts again this morning. Cutting to the chase the Redarc controller that disconnects the second battery when the primary battery drops below 12.7 volts was not dropping out till below 12.4v meaning thats its solenoid was drawing over half an amp all the time. I have disconnected it at the moment and all appears fine. I also had a free battery check done with the you beaut Century battery tester at Supercheap in Ingham which showed all ok. So the controller is added to the list of broken things to be attended to.
After tea Glen, Cynthia and ourselves popped into one of the local pubs for a drink and then home to bed. Our host is heading to Townsville in the morning for more hardware supplies. There isn't actually a lot of touristy stuff to do around Ingham. The highest drop water fall in Australia, Wallerman is an hour and a half away and the sea about 35km. This is one thing we will have to consider when we select HelpX places in future. i.e. choose somewhere that has some attractions close by. At the moment we are working most of the day primarily to get the job finished and move on which is not the way it is supposed to work. Ideally you would work half the day and have leisure for the other half.
One interesting thing is that this house in the middle of town was flooded in 2009 when the bushfires were on in Victoria. They had 300mm of rain in 6 hours. Glens canoe got swept away! After the flood receded and cleaning up begain it was flooded again 4 days later. There is no perception that we are on a flood plain or close to a river.
Anyway must start work so cheers for now.
Simon
PS A Wicked Camper driven by back packers managed to travel a short distance the wrong way along the divided road in the main street. The motorist backing his car out of the centre parking looking over his right shoulder was a bit surprised when he got hit from the left.
