Day 18 Nubeena Saturday 12th February 2011

The back and side of the unit block painted by the intrepid travellers

Bonjour tout le monde,

All hands on deck this morning for motel duty. Susan started on motel room cleaning before switching over to reception. I was over the road getting the floor tiling underway. Giacomo made good progress with laying the tiles and it was only necessary for me to supply the right tools and a small amount of guidance. This enabled me to rearrange the staff den to provide an open space for a "chanting" session this week.

After that I completed a few small repairs in the motel rooms, cooked some sausages for lunch and then headed back across the road to lock up. I spent the next hour picking blackberries which were abundant. The 25C temperature in the full summer sun and the bumblebees made me think this was probably a very English activity. I resisted the urge to put a knotted handkerchief on my head. Unfortunately we couldn't make a pie with them tonight as the flour was all used up. I cursed the fact I didn't buy the frozen puff pastry in the supermarket earlier. I am also now cursing the bramble prickles embedded in my fingers.

We had another delicious communal tea. Our young US friends never cease to amaze me with the food they prepare from what seems to my eye an empty kitchen. Wine was provided by the resort.
Clouds had drifted over in the afternoon and it is now raining fairly hard and has been for the last couple of hours, which means my washing will be saturated.

Tomorrow night the resort is full so things will be busy and there will be little opportunity for any touristy pursuits in the next couple of days. Actually it struck me today the downside of staying here is you only get one full day a week off which is something to consider when we decide our tenure since most activities need a full day and there are a few to do.

Cheers Simon
