Day 7 Nubeena Tuesday 1st February 2011

Creek entrance from Parsons Bay

"Winemaker"

Hi reluctant readers,

The travelling rain makers have struck again. A wet wet day in Nubeena. A dry start to the day enabled us to walk to the nearby tidal creek before starting our days toil.

First job was to start the process of producing apricot wine. We sorted the purchased fruit and mashed it in batches with a large lump of wood on a post provided by and under the watchful gaze of the local home wine making expert. The ingredients so far 18kg apricots, 6 kgs of sugar, 6 litres of water. Tomorrow we add the yeast!

I continued putting together the outdoor tables. Of course the last table in the last box had a bolt missing. Susan continued on with trying to tidy the resort kitchen and making plans for a general reorganisation of the storage areas. The kitchen is in a state of flux since the chef departed in December and the decision of the last couple of days is not to reopen the cafe. This should entail a major sorting of the equipment and stores and a general reorganisation of other storage areas so a bit of a challenge for Susan. Any outside activities in the afternoon, apart from getting wet were curtailed by the weather. It belted down highlighting which gutters were blocked. Although these will no doubt be forgotten about once the sub shines.

Also on the horizon is moving down to a house across the road owned by the resort and currently tenanted for the next week or so. It is to become the residence for the helpers.
We are slowly settling in but with 8 other helpers there has not been the instant rapport of our previous helpex's. However it is early days yet. Looking forward to tomorrows forecast fine weather.

cheers Simon
