We froze our ankles off in bed last night. Foolishly we kept the same bedding that we use in the swag i.e. a sleeping bag below and one above. This did not compensate for the large open volume of the camper and the fact that the bed in the camper is on the trailer with air underneath it whereas the swag has nice stable temperature ground under it.
Anyway the sun came up this morning and the tide brought in a beautiful sunny day with temps under the canvas up to 32. We continued the paving under the verandah, that is to say we continued carting road base and levelling the dolomite or crusher dust as they call it up here. Tomorrow we will go and pull up the pavers from various locations to be used on the job and actually start paving.
After he fed the cows today Peter released them back into the yard where we are camped. I was in here on the laptop and I could here them blundering around outside making, ripping up grass and chewing it, noises. They don't seem to have any fear of humans as they didn't bolt when I went out to confront them. They have settled down for the night a distance away so we should be safe. Some interesting trivia about cows, they never sleep, burning cow dung is an excellent fly repellent and fresh cow dung is used in India to sterilise floors. These facts come from Peter, use them at your own risk.
Hopefully tonight's moon won't send the cows rabid |
Aside from the buckets, broom, open tailgate, boots and bag of fire wood on the ground etc. the camper looks really neat at the moment. I almost want to go iron out the creases in the canvas! |
Prior to tea I had a lovely shower from the camper heater in the paddock adjacent the tent although the hot kept going off since my temperature over ride switch has fallen to pieces. I bought new one in Imbil this afternoon. The source of hot water here is Run on Sun a passive solar heater from which the water emerges too hot for a shower but could be blended with cold. Works very well when the sun shines.
Anyway that's it for the day. Because we have extra bedding on the temperature is much milder tonight around 11 rather than the 6 of last night at this time.
night folks
Simon
