Day 71 Nerang (Gold Coast) Friday 17th August 2012

Good Evening folks,
Tonight's blog comes to you from Stephen (Susan's step brother) and Michelle's house on the Gold Coast. As I type it is around 11pm and large peals of thunder are echoing. I have checked the weather radar and the rain looks to be a small but heavy pocket travelling just to the north and heading out to sea.
Camp at Inskip

Not looking quite as thin and some clown spoiling the moment

This is much better than looking at trees, lakes and the ocean

We packed and left Inskip this morning with hordes of 4WD's heading down the road to catch the ferry to Fraser Island for the weekend. It is Tailor season apparently. We worked up quite a sweat packing in the "heat" and after pausing to fill the water tank in town headed up the highway to Kenilworth where we returned the talking books to the library and had an expresso and muffin. It was then on to Brisbane. The GPS was programmed to avoid the toll roads however it couldn't manage this so I kept manually avoiding them. This made for a fairly slow cramped journey on what I guess was the old route through Brisbane. The fact it was Friday afternoon didn't help our progress much. Although judging by the congestion on the Gold Coast motorway I don't know that taking the toll way would have saved us that much time. I have to say that because I chose not to pay a $4 toll. We arrived just on dusk and did a rapid camper set up. The space is a bit tight and after realising a large shrub was blocking the end of the tent we did a manual repositioning of the trailer.
Susan's father and her step mum are here visiting which is why we chose to come at this time since it suits our schedule. We had some drinks and a delicious tea prepared by Stephen.
The laugh of the evening (well for me anyway) was when I was telling Norman (Susan's dad) that she had been telling tales about him knocking drinks over. About 40 minutes later he knocked Anne's coffee over from about a metre away. You had to be there, priceless.
Anyway the thunder has stopped so into bed for me.

night folks

Simon
