Day 68 Inskip Point Tuesday 14th August 2012

Hi Folks,

This morning we were up early and strolled down to the point that the barge leaves from to see what happens and how. All pretty straight forward. I mainly wanted to check out how people were traversing to it as I am not inexperienced in sand driving. I have taken the recommendations on-board from the Pajero newsgroup so I don't think there will be any dramas when we head to Fraser tomorrow. For the softer sand, tyres at 20p.s.i., 4 high in second gear with the ASC off keep the momentum up and if you get in trouble don't dig a big hole and reverse out in 4 low range. That's the theory anyway! We did go for a spin down over the soft sand to the beach with no problem so I think we will be fine.
Strolling to the barge

That's a big truck!

After breakfast we went to the laundromat again so Susan could wash the sleeping bag that got forgotten in yesterdays wash. I went to the ranger station and shelled out $40 for a one month vehicle access to Fraser. When I returned Susan was extracting the washing and putting it in the car. The problem being that it was dirtier than when it went in. She talked to the owner who was next door running the fish shop and some terse words were exchanged with Susan being accused of overloading the machine. The logic that this would make the washing come out with extra dirt on it escaped us. However the attitude was it's your problem go away, which we did. I didn't get involved. I would have refunded us the $4 and said here try again in another machine. Some people just shouldn't be in customer service. Anyway the rest of the shop keepers we have encountered here have been very polite and courteous.

Looking back along the beach to Rainbow Beach

I took several strolls around the beach front adjacent the camp while Susan rewashed the laundry in a bucket. She is still suffering from her virus and is finding it hard going at times.

She encouraged me to go fishing which I did later this afternoon. My new rods are excellent. The fishing was enjoyable but not overly productive. One small sand whiting which I threw back being unsure of its legality. Although I did notice my neighbour taking one the same size. I lost a lot of worm baits to some sabre tooth pickers which were revealed to be toadies when I eventually hooked one.

Tea was good old sausages. After which we sat in front of a pretty warm but small fire made from wood collected at Imbil. I actually nodded off in my chair a few times before retiring inside to type up the days events.

Tomorrow off to Fraser with the millions of other tourists.

cheers

Simon
