Day 285 Nowhere Else Tuesday 8th November 2011

Hi folks,
A new location for tonight’s blog. This blog comes from a place bounded by grumpiness, frustration and resignation. The reasons for which I will detail below.
We awoke at the rather late time of 845 this morning. This was in part due to the cloudy dull morning. It rained hard over night and at one stage there was an almighty clap of thunder just about overhead. When we ventured out to the kitchen we found the power was off. The greenhouse has an automatic backup generator which I could hear running from inside the house. I had a chuckle with Eric about the signage on the generator which read “silent diesel”
The weather continued in threatening mode so Susan and I headed to Devonport so she could visit the bank and deposit her jewellery for repairs and cleaning. As we entered the town the phone rang with news that the coffee machine was fixed so we stopped and picked it up.
I went to a local computer shop and bought a network dongle to try and improve Susan’s experience.
We returned home via Sheffield for lunch and some food supplies.
Susan started work in the garden while I tried in vain to get the new dongle to work on her computer. I put it aside for later and did a bit of work outside, reflecting on the fact I dislike wireless networking.
I decided I had better check the swag which was wrapped in a tarp inside the roof bag on top of the camper. There was a bit of water inside the bag which I expected but overall it was not too bad. I then decided to check the new roof bag and discovered there was water inside that also. It had leaked in through the zip join at the back presumably because that section was laying flat. Not a huge disaster but a bag of clothes, a sleeping bag and a bag of linen were wet. Something that did not fill us with joy. Especially as I had the optimistic hope that the new bag would be perfect!
Next cab off the rank I decided to pull the cover off the camper. On one side there was a fair bit of water inside and it had managed to wet the mattress. The PVC cover has always been pretty waterproof. Although I did have to mop a small amount of water at Nubeena the last time I checked it. It’s possible the stitching is leaking so that will need looking into. I mopped up most of the water with a darkening mood and pulled the mattress inside to join the roof bag contents drying in the spare room. I left it while I went inside for tea which was ample time for a heavy dew to settle on the area I had dried. Tomorrow’s weather forecast is for rain in the morning easing at lunchtime followed by rain and storms in the afternoon. Not good weather for someone eager to dry his camper out! It never rains it pours! Anyway if it is a dirty day I will have more time to waste trying to improve our wireless internet. A new router is on the cards. Not one of our most joyful days but a reminder of the need to be vigilant in our preparations and precautions when rain is about.
We had some more discussion about our movements over the next 3 – 4 months and I think we almost reached a decision. Stay tuned!

Cheers Simon
